National Preparatory Meeting of Tree Week in Buenos Aires

Representatives from all Argentine provinces gathered in Buenos Aires in a preparatory meeting of Tree Week 2014.

Last Friday, June 6, took place in the Argentine Federation of Municipalities (FAM) of the City of Buenos Aires, the meeting to start planning and organizing the new edition of Tree Week, to be held from 24th to 31st August.

The working day organized by the Argentine Water and Youth Movement and the Argentine Chapter of the Club of Rome, received the support of the Argentine Federation of Municipalities and had the participation of representatives of various institutions.

Silvia Zimmermann del Castillo, Executive Director of the Argentine Chapter of the Club of Rome, said at the opening of the meeting that “the exchange with nature is the great event of the coming years”, so the campaign that invites all citizens to plant trees arises as the ideal way to reestablish the bond between man and his surroundings.

After the opening of the meeting, made by the Intendente of Saladillo, Carlos Antonio Gorosito, Silvia Zimmermann del Castillo and the Coordinator of Tree Week, Gonzalo del Castillo, the event began at 10.00 am with an expert table: Lic. Inés Gómez (Director of Native Woods of the Department of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation), Eng Sebastián Pablo Galarco (Director of Woods and Forestry of the Ministry of Land Affairs of the Province of Buenos Aires) and Dr. Gabriel Burgueño (expert in native trees), and continued until 17:00 with exposure tables of previous experiences of municipalities and non-governmental organizations.

On the other hand, work tools for the organization of Tree Week in each city were presented and experiences and opinions were shared among all participants.

This important preparatory Working Meeting of the 3rd Tree Week, to be held from 25th to 31st August, was possible thanks to the valuable support of the Foundation Guido Badaloni and Andesmar.
